The Community Support
As a nonprofit organization, Ballet Northwest relies on the support of the community. We have received major grants and gifts from the Washington State Arts Commission, POSSCA, The Lassen Foundation, Mervyn’s of California and others. We have also received support from local businesses, including Kell-Chuck Glass and Group Health Cooperative.
The Corporation
Founded in 1970, Ballet Northwest is a community based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting dance as a performing art in Southwest Washington. We produce performance featuring local dancers at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts, sponsor touring dance companies, and offer educational opportunities for performers and the community.
The Dancers
In addition to providing excellent productions, Ballet Northwest provides a creative outlet for the youth of our community. The dancers work long and hard to learn intricate choreography and perform at a higher level with each production. Performing on stage gives dancers self-confidence and poise, providing them with skills that help them in their future endeavors.
The Dance
Dance is one of the most brilliant and lively of the arts, and because it is purely an art of motion, the most ephemeral. Recall some of its images: the ballerina’s fluid arms and long graceful legs; her sweeping flight, heightened and extended by her partner; the sweep of music; brilliant swirling costumes; leaps and whirls; or maybe the sinuous twists and fancy kicks of a jazz dancer. The dancers’ bodies are strong and lithe, and they seem able to make any motion, any slightest gesture seem easy and graceful, the reward of long and concentrated training. The images pass before our watching eyes, and are gone, recorded only in memory. Such a brilliant art deserves our care and attention for the delight it has given us.
The Supporship Benefits
All Sponsors receive recognition in our programs and on our web site regardless of sponsorship level. However, Sponsors receive additional benefits when giving at the $1,000 level and above. These benefits include acknowledgement at curtain time and company’s name and logo displayed prominently in all publicity and in the theater lobby. Your business receives advertising space in our season programs and on the Ballet Northwest web site. Depending on the sponsorship level, you also receive several VIP ticket sets to all our season productions.
